First District RESA Summer Institute featuring Google for Education

I had the wonderful, humbling privilege of presenting two sessions for the 1st District RESA Summer Institute featuring Google for Education at the beginning of June at Georgia Southern University. While I certainly learned a great deal from the presenters, I enjoyed spending time with my professional learning network in person and planning ahead to new and better collaborations for this upcoming school year just as much.

During the sessions, I shared my new favorite tool for organization and collaboration on tasks, Google Keep, as well as my love of Google Hangouts for cross-classroom connections.  Based on the feedback I received, that the other ITS and MS in the room loved starting points in breaking down their library and classroom walls with Google Hangouts and teachers loved the idea of using Google Keep to help students and other teachers stay organized on projects, tasks, etc.

One of my favorite sessions was from the amazing Robin Thompson about using Google Cardboard for virtual field trips and augmented reality. I have been wanting her to teach me her ways all year and I finally had my opportunity. While I use a lot of virtual field trips with real time experts, I think using Google Cardboard is much more conducive to a middle school/high school schedule. I'm excited to try it out more over the summer and bring it to my new school in the fall.
