Banned Books Week 2018 Prep!

Banned Books Week is coming up in a short 7 days! Spots are filling up quickly for the first annual AMMS Library Banned Books Buffet to celebrate our freedom to read, to think, to question, and to learn. 

What is Banned Books Week?
"Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Banned Books Week was launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in schools, bookstores and libraries...It highlights the value of free and open access to information. Banned Books Week brings together the entire book community — librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular."

What are we planning?

Book Buffet
ELA teachers have the opportunity to sign their classes up for a Banned Books Book Tasting with a smorgasbord of amazing titles that have been challenged or banned. Students will analyze the reasons these books were banned/challenged and get a taste of books they may want to check out.

Collaborative Hyperdoc
If you would rather celebrate in your classrooms, I created a Hyperdoc for Banned Books Week you can find here. Just share in Google Classroom with every student getting their own copy. 

Banned Books Read-Out-a-Thon
We are also hosting a virtual Read-Out-a-Thon through Flipgrid to share passages or quotes from our  favorite banned/challenged books. You can join in with us here!
